Aer Lingus Teoranta. (EI)

This company ordered four Series 208ALs on 03May63 in a 74 seat single class configuration. They were delivered between May and Sep65 and were introduced into service on 06Jun65. Over the years they were used on an extensive network from Dublin, Cork and Shannon to destinations which included Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, Liverpool, London (Gatwick and Heathrow) and Manchester in the United Kingdom and to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Lourdes, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Rome and Zurich in Europe. One aircraft was leased to LANICA of Nicaragua from Oct66 to Apr67. The type was finally withdrawn from service on 03Mar91 after operating nearly twenty-six years of continuous accident free service on both scheduled and charter flights. From 28Oct96 to 28Mar97 aircraft drawn from the British World Series 500 fleet were used to operate a daily schedule between Stansted and Dublin while from 22May98 to 14Feb99 AB Airlines Ltd operated jointly marketed services from Shannon to Birmingham and Stansted.

Ryanair, Ltd. (FR)

This company introduced the type into service with a Series 561RC leased from TAROM on the Luton to Dublin route on 01Dec86. Two Series 525FTs were added in Mar and Apr87 from the same source. Further expansion came in 1988 with the addition of two Series 525FTs and a Series 561RC also leased from TAROM. Two Series 525FTs were retuned to TAROM in Nov89. In Jun90 a Series 561RC was transferred from Ryanair Europe until it was returned to TAROM in October of the same year. In December 1990 a Series 531FS and a Series 523FJ were transferred from Ryanair Europe after another Series 561RC was returned to TAROM a month earlier. A Series 509EW, previously operated by Dan-Air Services, was taken on strength in Apr91 followed by Ryanair Europe’s last Series 518FG One-Eleven in May91. A previously used Series 561RC and a Series 525FT were once again leased from TAROM in Apr92 for the summer season. For summer 1993 the company initially leased an earlier used Series 561RC from TAROM from Apr to Jun before leasing four Series 501EXs from British Airways from early after signing an agreement on 28May93. The last of the leased Romanian aircraft was returned to TAROM in Oct93. With the arrival of a fleet of Boeing 737-200s in the spring of 1994, the One-Elevens were withdrawn from most scheduled services and the four leased British Airways aircraft were returned to them between Jan and Mar94. This was quickly followed by the withdrawal from service of two of the remaining One-Elevens in Apr94 leaving just two One-Elevens to cover the Connaught/Knock and Cork schedules, a few off peak schedules and ad hoc charter work. Once configured with 119 passenger seats, all aircraft were later fitted with either 104 or 109 seats. Over the years the One-Elevens were used on the company’s scheduled routes from Dublin to Glasgow, Liverpool, Luton, Munich both direct and via Stansted), Paris, Prestwick and Stansted, from Connaught/Knock to Birmingham, Coventry, Gatwick, Luton, Manchester and Stansted and from Cord and Shannon to both Luton and Stansted. The last new route to be inaugurated by the One-Eleven fleet was a twice daily schedule between Dublin and Birmingham on 08Nov93. The last revenue service was flown with the type on 02Oct94. The aircraft also carried out extensive charter work throughout Europe. The company also controlled a UK based subsidiary airline which also operated One-Elevens which was initially called London European Airways and later traded as Ryanair Europe.
